Hello, my name is Erin and welcome to Nextopia eCommerce Labs. I’m here today to share some knowledge from our team of experts about the importance of breadcrumb navigation and displaying a breadcrumb trail.
Let’s begin with defining what a breadcrumb trail is. A breadcrumb trail is a display that reveals the string of refinements a customer has used to land on a product page, or a filtered list of products.
For example, if a customer is on a product page for a pair of pants, the breadcrumb trail or breadcrumb links might look something like this: Home>Clothing>Female>Pants>Product Name.
A breadcrumb trail is important for many reasons. First, it allows a customer to easily retrace their steps in their refinements to easily navigate to a previous page. By helping your customers understand where they are on your site, and how they got there, they will be more likely to browse other areas of your site.
Second, it provides a tremendous functionality for very little on-page real-estate. By simply displaying text links above your customers’ refined search results, you open up a whole other method of website navigation—without needing to drastically redesign your site.
Remember, if your customers can’t easily find their way around your site, they’ll go to a competitor’s website where they can. Don’t give them that option. Keep your browsers on your site and convert them to buyers by enhancing your navigation functionality. Click here for more tips on how you can improve your product pages.
Thanks for watching and I’ll see you next time!
