Let’s start by defining the term “above the fold”. Everything on your website that is immediately viewable, without scrolling down is considered to be “above the fold”.

Your customers like to get their shopping done quickly and easily, and many will buy one of the first products displayed in their search results. Therefore, the most relevant and important search results should be displayed above the fold. The chances of a customer buying a product displayed below the fold are much lower than one above the fold.

You should also display your search box above the fold, as it should be easy for customers to find and use. If it’s on the bottom of the page, it will be hard for customers to find and they may become frustrated and leave. As every eCommerce retailer knows, a lost browser is a lost sale.

Remember, place your search box and as many search results as possible above the fold on your website.
