Hello, my name is Erin and welcome to Nextopia eCommerce Labs. I’m here today to share some knowledge from our team of experts about how you can improve the “no results found” page on your website.
Let’s quickly start from the beginning. A “no results found” page is the page a customer lands on when their search query returns zero results.
Typically when customers reach this point they give up and move on to a competitor’s website. This will increase your site’s search-to-exit rate and results in lost sales.
Improving the “no results found” page can decrease your search-to-exit rate, and in turn boost your conversion rate and overall sales.
So where do you start?
First, be apologetic. Instead of simply displaying “no results found” to your customer, use apologetic language and apologize for not being able to provide the customer with the product they were searching for.
Second, give the customer options. Provide them with suggested products to purchase or links back to the homepage, category pages, or the contact us page.
Third, create a call to action. For example, give customers the option to tell you what they are looking for and provide customer feedback through email or phone. Or, offer to keep them updated on whether you carry that product in the future by providing a newsletter sign-up link. Whatever you decide, make sure that there is a clear next step for your customers to take in order to keep those visitors on your site.
Always remember, a search-to-exit bounce is a lost sale, so keep your customers informed and on your site through a customized “no results found” page, and they’ll have fewer reasons to jump ship to a competitor.
