Mastering Colour Refinements – eCommerce Conversion Tips

Hello, my name is Eric and welcome to Nextopia eCommerce Labs. I’m here today to share some knowledge from our team of experts about the best way to display colour refinements in your filtered navigation.

Colour refinements are typically displayed on the left side of the screen and allow customers to narrow their searches by colour. However, this refinement can be displayed in two ways: A list, which simply places the colour names as text links in alphabetical order, or a palette, which shows your customers examples of the colours as clickable refinements.

In the opinion of our team of eCommerce experts, we believe that a colour palette is always the better choice. Displaying the actual colour swatches will draw your customers eye to the refinement, which encourages its use. Also, different customers may also have a different understanding of each colour. For example, if the only the word “Orange” is displayed, one customers’ idea of what orange is may differ from another’s. Don’t leave doubt in their minds.

Providing colour refinements in a palette, instead of a list, will make it easier for your customers to navigate through your products and buy with confidence.

Thank you for watching, see you soon!
