Shoptalk 2018 Recap: What Went Down
Last week, the Nextopia Team got a chance to get out of the gloomy Canadian weather, and head down to Las Vegas, to attend Shoptalk 2018 – the world’s largest eCommerce and retail tradeshow.
From March 18-21st, the conference brought together over 7,500 attendees and hosted 329 speakers and workshops related to the eCommerce industry.
The show started on Sunday, with a welcome reception in the main exhibition hall. It was exciting to see a buzzing room full of eCommerce like-minded people. After only the 4th ever Shoptalk, the exhibition hall was packed to the brim with exhibiting booths.
The Nextopia Team had to start the trip off right –with some Southern Comfort Food! What better way to do that then at Venetian’s famous restaurant known for this style – Yard-Bird!
The first day of Shoptalk was a super eventful one. Nextopia was exhibiting at the Artificial Intelligence Discovery Zone, that included companies with cutting-edge technologies that are based on machine learning.
Derek from our team participated in the TechTalk and talked about the importance of Personalization Through Search. After a completely full audience, Derek got some interesting questions and could definitely tell that Personalization will continue to be a hot topic for 2018.
Later that evening, Nextopia got together with Shopify Plus, to host the Over The Top party at the Presidential Suite at the Venetian with various other Shopify Plus partners.
The room was buzzing with talk about what’s happening in the eCommerce industry. The event was a blast, as we connected with fellow partners, customers, and got to make some memorable karaoke and billiards moments.

On Tuesday, the Nextopia Team had a chance to hang around the exhibit hall and visit fellow partners such as Smile.io, Klaviyo, and Guidance. We even brought them a little piece of home –Canadian maple syrup!
They ended off the busy day with (a much-deserved) dinner at SW Steakhouse, with partner Ali, from Imagination Media.
Wednesday marked the end of Shoptalk 2018, and came with some amazing closing keynotes about how AI will change the way we shop and sell. Nextopia is super excited to take part in this shift to personalization and will continue to build our product, to enhance the user experience through search.
Time to start planning for Shoptalk 2019!
