Over the past several years, the “Elf on the Shelf” has become a popular holiday trend on social media. Whether on Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook, a search for the “Elf on the Shelf” results in hilarious photos of the Christmas trickster appearing unexpectedly in people’s homes.

If you’re not familiar with the story of the Elf on the Shelf, here’s some background. The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition is a 2004 children’s picture book by author Carol Aebersold. Written in rhyme, the story explains how Santa discovers who is naughty and who is nice. Each year, elves visit children between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve to make this distinction, after which they return home to the North Pole.

Accordingly, it has become commonplace for families to come up with creative ways to place the elf, encouraging children to behave all December long.

Here at Nextopia, we’ve decided to put our own spin on the “Elf on the Shelf” concept. We sent out “eCommerce Elves” to report back to us on our partners, digital agencies, and development teams to find out who has been naughty and who has been nice this past year.

We’ve also used our latest social commerce product, Evocative, to showcase images of Charlie the eCommerce Elf and his friends on our website. Here, partners can register their “Elf on the Shelf” for the chance to win a Nextopia Happy Hour.
