Hello, my name is Emily and welcome to Nextopia eCommerce Labs. I’m here today to share some knowledge from our team of experts on how to set up site search analytics.
Lets quickly start with determining how site search analytics can be helpful for your business. Site search analytics provide information that allow you to better understand your customers wants. In knowing exactly what your customers are searching for you are able to adjust your product offering accordingly
So how do you actually set up your site search analytics on Google?
First, head over to the Google Analytics home page and login in with your Google account. If you don’t have one you will need to create one.
Second, select the admin tab at the top of the page.
Notice there are now three columns. In the third column select view settings.
You have now enabled your site search tracking!
At this point you will be asked to enter your query parameters. A query parameter is a letter or term within a URL that designates what the search term is. These parameters help Google understand what terms and queries are being used in your site search.
To determine your query parameters, go to your eCommerce site and perform an internal site search. Look at the URL and find the phrase or letter that precedes your search term.
Once you have your query parameters, enter them into your site search analytics and be sure to separate them with a comma.
Remember, it is important to take the time to understand how effectively your site is performing. This is a very helpful way to get to know your customers and further improve your site.
Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next time!
