Hello, my name is Eric and welcome to Nextopia eCommerce Labs. I’m here today to share some knowledge from our team of experts about the importance of choosing your refinement groups wisely.

What are refinements? Refinements the filters that are displayed on the left side of your search results. Some common examples of refinements are price, color, customer rating, and gender. They give the customer an easy way to refine their search terms and navigate through your product catalog.

Although displaying refinements are vital to helping your customers find what they’re looking for, it’s important to choose your refinements wisely. If you display every possible refinement, your customers will be overwhelmed and find it difficult to choose the refinement that they’re looking for.

When choosing your refinements, curate your selections to only include important ones. Also, be mindful of your product offering, and the demographics of your site visitors. An electronics store should have a different refinement strategy than, say, a furniture store for example. Utilize A/B testing to find out what refinement strategy fits your needs.

Remember, keeping your site simple and easy to use will make customers come back and buy again!
